Welcome aboard the Royal Gorge Route! Back in the 1880's, passengers began experiencing the spectacular beauty of the Royal Gorge from the rails of the Denver & Rio Grande Western train line. We feel fortunate to have the opportunity to share what is not only some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, but also a railroad history and preservation effort, vital to preserving Colorado's past.
The men who built this railroad through the deep chasm of the Royal Gorge had their work cut out for them. This is some of the most complex railroading in the world, with the raging waters of the Arkansas River on one side, and the solid granite cliffs towering over 1,000 feet high on the other. Come experience this engineering wonder from the comfortable climate controlled coaches, Vista Dome service, Gourmet Lunches, Four Course Dinners, Special Winemaker's Events and Murder Mystery Events.
